Aaaaaand We're Back!

After a restful week, Asa Adams School is back in session! Over the next few weeks for language arts in Room 8, we will be working on a Dr. Seuss author study. I could not be more excited. We started yesterday with a brief introduction and a read aloud of "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins". This week's spelling words are themed on the Dr. Seuss books are reading this week. I have so many fun things planned for this afternoon! More to come. :)

Valentine's Day Celebration

Yesterday, as you all should be well aware of by now, was Valentine's Day. The ideas of chocolate, treats, and Valentine cards took the primary focus of the entire day, even the time that was meant for learning. I decided that forcing them to try to listen during math wasn't good for anyone, so we ended up just playing various team-building games until the party in the afternoon.

When I Grow Up...

Last week in second grade, the class worked on their submissions for a drawing contest with the Bangor Daily News. The prompt was: "What would you like to be when you grow up? Draw a picture of yourself in the future". The winning drawings will be published in the Bangor Daily News on March 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, and 20 and all the entries will be published around that time here.

When I grow up I want to be a astronaut.

In the future I will be an electrical engineer.

When I grow up I want to be a vet to make animals feel better to make the world a better place to live.

When I grow up I want to be an artist.

I want to be an artist when I grow up.

In the future I want to be a guidance teacher.

I want to be a pop star when I grow up.

When I grow up I want to be a popstar.

I want to be a teacher when I grow up.

In the future I will be an archaeologist.

When I grow up I want to an artist.

When I grow up I want to be a fireman.

I want to be a teacher.

In 17 years I will be a farmer.

When I grow up I want to be a teacher.

In the future I will be an astronaut.

When I grow up I want to be a teacher and an artist.

I want to be a police officer when I grow up in the future.

When I grow up I will be an author and traveler.

Professional Development

Today I got a "break" from the classroom to participate in a Student Teacher Workshop on campus. I learned so much about the application, interviewing, and certification process, but now I'm so nervous/anxious/excited for the whole job search to begin. The real world is getting so close! Maybe I'll just be eight again and actually go back to second grade tomorrow.

Room 8 Goes to China!

Like I have mentioned before, over the past couple of weeks the library was in the process of being transformed into China! This morning, it was Room 8's turn to take a flight over for a tour and some fun. I took a TON of pictures. (I won't post all of them, I promise. Maybe.)

Boarding the aircraft and preparing for our flight to China!
We have liftoff!
Landing safely in China and preparing to exit the plane

Entering China! (Wish I could have gotten in there first to take a picture of their reactions.)

Taking it all in

All the bookshelves were covered with paper and canvas. The library was unrecognizable!
